Teeny Bear

Well HELLO Everyone!

Sorry for being so lax-a-daisy with my blog during this last week, but I have been really busy with a commission!!!!

A friend is launching a new range of bespoke clothing and accessories in December, and has asked me to be  part of the design team (Eeeeeeeekkkk!! - A very excitable eek!), so I have been busy doing stuff for that!

You may recall from here that Bean and Peanut were on half term and our thoughts had turned to creating things for Christmas......

Well, I have to sift through a lot of pictures and sort them out into order before I can upload them, but I just have to show you Bean's attempt at a Bear pattern that I have from my childhood....... I used to make loads of these little bears for friends and family, and it was all very nostalgic for me that both Bean and Peanut chose this pattern as one of their choices to create as presents for friends....

Here is Bean's test bear......

He is very cute for a first make, although a tad lopsided and not as stuffed as he should be, and Bean did not give him a mouth!!

Bean was not as impressed with him as I was, and that was purely down to the fact that she is a bit of a perfectionist and he didn't come out ........ perfect!

I am pleased to say that whilst Bean discarded him, Peanut was quick to adopt him and take the picture above, with him holding her lip balm!

On a good note, Bean did not give up, she has proceeded to perfect her bear making skills, and when I get a chance, I will post more pictures :-)

Well, until next time.... have a good day and thanks for popping in.

Edited to add:  I've just realised........ this is my 100th post!!!!!! Yaaaayyyyy! xxx

Ta Dah!!!

Welcome Back!

I also want to welcome a number of younger browsers, who have been dipping in and out of my blog during D&T time at a certain school, which shall remain nameless!  I hope you are inspired by what you find here, and that it encourages you to explore your inner creativity and that you try new things and experiment more......... some things will work, and some things won't.  The main thing is to have fun and enjoy what you are trying out. Good luck and be proud of your achievements.

If you have followed me for a while, you may remember this post.....

Well, I have now finished the house and all that it needs now is a frame.

I am still busy with the second one, but as soon as it is finished, I will show you.  I find it amazing how you can design something and it looks so different, depending what you do with it.

The one above was very simple to make, I cut out felt to the shapes I required and then I stitched the felt pieces onto some plain calico, using running stitch and back stitch. the stars on the house were a simple straight stitch, for the tree trunk, I used chain stitch and the little dots were French knots.

You could easily use this type of design to make cushions, pencil cases, throws.... or anything that you can think of..... the list is endless!

Have fun with your creativity.

Stitchy Time!

Helloooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Well I am totally and utterly excited!!! (Squeals with delight!) and I couldn't wait to share my excitement with some-one!

The reason for this excitement is this.......

I have had an idea for quite some time now.....  It all started when I was introduced to Folk Art designs, and for a looooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg time, I have been sketching and moving and sketching some more until I came up with this......

Now, I've had these two sketches, along with a few others, sitting around for an absolute age, calling out to me to do something with them, and I couldn't decide what to do.......... and then it hit me....... I felt a need to stitch!!  The last time I did any form of hand stitching (apart from cross stitching, which I have not had a lot of time to do!) was when I was Eleven (11)!!!   That is a pretty long time ago, but I didn't let it phase me, I just went ahead and used some felt in places and started stitching...... I fell in love all over again with the calm and soothing pace of stitching and this is what it looks like so far.....

Size wise, it is just slightly smaller than an A4 sheet of paper, and this one is almost complete, I am still busy decorating the house.  I also have one on the go that is going to be completely hand stitched, with not a piece of felt in sight!

I have to say...... I  totally LOVE this piece to bits!  I think it's more to do with the fact that I have pondered over the design for so long, and now I can see it all coming together.... Yaaaaayyyy!!

As soon as it is completed, I will show it to you. Promise!

Have a Fab time....... until next time......

Mental Blockage!!!

I have been struggling for a few weeks now with a mental block!!!  I should be designing and ....... quite frankly ............ I'm not!!

How do you overcome such blockages? Certainly not by ripping your house apart!!!  This only adds to the mental hysteria!!!

Well, I feel I can see the light, as I went to visit a friend, and we went out for some retail therapy at the fabric shop!!!   I had some material from when I was a fresher at Uni and had been wanting to make something with it for soooooo long, rather than wasting it, so I added a new piece freshly purchased ....

The bottom piece (blue floraly one) is the new one...... NOW the fun could begin......

I wanted to make something that would be useful for both bean and peanut ....

TA-DAH!!!!

I made 6 bags, which can hold anything and everything and are all fully lined and they fit neatly into one another to save storage space if not being used!

The last time I did any sewing (proper sewing - not messing around with the sewing machine), was 11 years ago, when I made a Baptism gown, complete with bonnet and booties, so I was a bit apprehensive when making these, but everything came flooding back....... a bit like riding a bike!

Guess what else? ........ My Design Mojo has returned!!

A bit of fun.

This was the first quilt I ever made 17 years ago with the guidance of my late Mum.  It was originally intended for a pregnant friend, but after a week of staying up until 1am every morning, cutting out material and stitching it all back together again, I couldn't bear to part with it, so I bought something for her baby instead and kept the quilt! :-)
